This novel principle can be summarised as controlling wake profiles with the intention of producing useful effects outside of the normal propulsive efficiency gains. The use of which could assist the recovery of unmanned autonomous assets. Frazer-Nash assessed this concept through an analytical wake study of a vessel and appendage. The assessment summarised the ability to create a similar wake profile to what small craft utilise for ‘wake surfing’. It was suggested that by utilising wake patterns in a similar fashion, a largemothership could assert a controlling or guiding force onto an approaching asset to assist recovery operations. 000007656 542__ $$fCC-BY-4.0 000007656 6531_ $$aOff-board asset ship appendages 000007656 6531_ $$aUSV 000007656 6531_ $$awake 000007656 6531_ $$aship appendages 000007656 6531_ $$awake control 000007656 6531_ $$aLaunch and recovery 000007656 6531_ $$awake surfing 000007656 7001_ $$aMackay, MCM$$uSenior Engineer, Frazer-Nash Consultancy 000007656 773__ $$tConference Proceedings of INEC 000007656 773__ $$jINEC 2020 000007656 789__ $$whttps://zenodo.org/record/4472536$$2URL$$eIsIdenticalTo 000007656 8564_ $$992079c69-d1d4-4f1f-9add-27f04b033ece$$s794163$$uhttps://library.imarest.org/record/7656/files/INEC_2020_Paper_21.pdf
