Conventional power generation devices are unable to meet the unique demands of these load profiles and so must be bolstered with energy storage devices to alleviate transient loading. Active hybrid energy storage modules offer both high-energy and high-power density when compared to traditional energy storage devices. Fuzzy logic control offers a method of controlling such a system to meet MIL-STD-1399 requirements on a shipboard system while requiring little knowledge of the system components. This paper evaluates a fuzzy logic controller’s ability to maintain an energy storage module voltage while accommodating a bi-directional transient load that is representative of one that could be seen aboard a naval vessel.  000007602 542__ $$fCC-BY-NC-ND-4.0 000007602 6531_ $$aHybrid Energy Storage Module 000007602 6531_ $$aFuzzy Logic Control 000007602 6531_ $$aEnergy Storage Device 000007602 6531_ $$aBi-Directional DC/DC Power Conversion 000007602 7001_ $$aWetz, D A$$uThe University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas, United States 000007602 7001_ $$aCohen, I J$$uThe University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, Texas, United States 000007602 7001_ $$aHeinzel, J M$$uNaval Surface Warfare Center – Philadelphia Division, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States 000007602 773__ $$tConference Proceedings of INEC 000007602 773__ $$jINEC 2018 000007602 789__ $$whttps://zenodo.org/record/2275299$$2URL$$eIsIdenticalTo 000007602 85641 $$uhttps://imarest.org/inec$$yConference website 000007602 8564_ $$93bb174bc-e62e-4d59-9390-7b713450d75a$$s5707439$$uhttps://library.imarest.org/record/7602/files/INEC%202018%20Paper%20041%20Wetz%20FINAL.pdf
