This paper describes the challenge of pulse load integration from the perspective of the power system design authority.  Modelling and simulation has been employed to study the electrical response of a representative power system when subject to a range pulse load characteristics.  Subsequently, the effects of pulse loading are reviewed in terms of impact upon the prime mover. It is concluded that whilst electrical supply performance can be maintained within allowable power quality limits as defined by STANAG 1008, the mechanical effects can be to the detriment of engine life, highlighting key recommendations to understand both electrical and mechanical performance envelope in design for integration.  000007590 542__ $$fCC-BY-NC-ND-4.0 000007590 6531_ $$aElectrical power system 000007590 6531_ $$aPower quality 000007590 6531_ $$aDiesel generator performance 000007590 6531_ $$aCombat system integration 000007590 7001_ $$aMills, K$$uRolls-Royce, Naval Electrical Automation & Control, UK 000007590 7001_ $$aXiong, J$$uRolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 000007590 7001_ $$aLiu, X$$uRolls-Royce Electrical, Singapore 000007590 7001_ $$aVenkatesh, P$$uRolls-Royce@NTU Corporate Lab, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore 000007590 773__ $$tConference Proceedings of INEC 000007590 773__ $$jINEC 2018 000007590 789__ $$whttps://zenodo.org/record/2270654$$2URL$$eIsIdenticalTo 000007590 85641 $$uhttps://imarest.org/inec$$yConference website 000007590 8564_ $$900c8e3ed-c146-49a7-b0bd-e3000d6812e4$$s3829167$$uhttps://library.imarest.org/record/7590/files/INEC%202018%20Paper%20026%20Mills%20FINAL.pdf
