There are a variety of options to fuel commercial ships that are emerging, many of which have significant safety concerns that would likely remove the viability for front line warships. The use of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) could provide an acceptable means to store hydrogen onboard, removing many of the risks associated with hydrogen storage and enabling storage arrangements more akin to current F76 fuel. This paper will explore the use and integration of LOHC onboard a naval vessel. Investigating the plant required and the layout within a vessel. This work will showcase the benefits of using LOHC compared to many of the other commercial options, whilst also exploring the challenges and potential mitigations.
