With the high cost pressure on defence spending, navies are seeking to meet these objectives with low acquisition and life cycle costs with leanly manned crews for ships. In this scenario, while the complexity of the propulsion system design itself increases, the complexity extends to the domains of the propulsion control systems and human-machine interface. With the lean crew on-board, the complexity further extends to the areas of operation and maintenance of such systems on-board and thus crew training. This paper proposes a domain based integrated Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) to comprehensively address the areas of system design, control system design, operation and maintenance as well as training. The approach is based on development of mathematical model of the propulsion system is developed early during the concept development stage which evolves continuously during the various stages of design. The same framework is then used for dynamic analysis of the system towards development of the propulsion control system, and then integrating into condition based maintenance systems and crew training systems. 000010681 542__ $$fCC-BY 000010681 6531_ $$aNaval Propulsion Systems 000010681 6531_ $$aSystems Engineering 000010681 6531_ $$aModel Based System Engineering (MBSE) 000010681 6531_ $$aModel Based Design (MBD) 000010681 6531_ $$aModelling 000010681 6531_ $$aSimulation 000010681 6531_ $$aPropulsion Control Systems 000010681 6531_ $$aDigital Twins 000010681 6531_ $$aImmersive Technologies 000010681 6531_ $$aVirtual Reality 000010681 6531_ $$aTraining Systems 000010681 7001_ $$aBatra, A$$uRENK Group 000010681 7001_ $$aHepperle, N$$uRENK Group 000010681 7001_ $$aHerdt, W$$uRENK Group 000010681 773__ $$tConference Proceedings of INEC 000010681 773__ $$jINEC 2022 000010681 85641 $$uhttps://www.imarest.org/events/category/categories/imarest-event/international-naval-engineering-conference-and-exhibition-2022$$yConference website 000010681 8564_ $$9aec0d77a-7dc8-4acb-884c-018d845bc71c$$s1077342$$uhttps://library.imarest.org/record/10681/files/INEC_2022_paper_24.pdf 000010681 980__ $$aConference Proceedings
